This is a "must read" book for readers at any level in the real estate business. Mr. Stephen's book will inspire and motivate. He is living evidence that anyone can succeed, and succeed big in the real estate business. His common sense, street smart approach is entertaining as well as educational. I highly recommend it.

This was one terrific book...My Life & 1000 Houses is an autobiography that details the life of Mitch Stephen, a very successful real estate entrepreneur from San Antonio, Texas who has purchased more than a thousand properties over the past 10 years. Do you think maybe he knows a little something about how to achieve financial freedom and perhaps a little bit about real estate? Yep, he does!
Three things I absolutely love about this book:
1. It is a phenomenal story of Mitch's personal and business life -- the good, the not so good, and the downright ugly.
2. It provides a number of practical business and real estate investing tips and strategies.
3. Stephen used the last ~150 pages of the book to share the most hilarious, sad, and inspiring stories from his real estate adventures.

I have both the paperback and audio versions of Mr. Stephens books and have enjoyed both. I wanted to relay a quick story regarding my 15 year old daughter. On a recent trip, we were driving from our home in Florida to Atlanta. With six hours to spend in the car I put one of the audio disks in to play while I was driving. I gave my wife and daughter a quick review of the book as they found it funny that I was playing the disk (I never play audio books in the car) but I found Mitch's story compelling and as a real estate investor, I am always looking for new and fresh ideas. I had already read the book and listened to the disks so I knew what was coming as we listened. What I didn't realize was how closely my daughter was following Mitch's story as we drove. I got to the end of the second or third disk but didn't immediately change to the next one. There was a short moment of silence when I heard from the back seat " What's Mitch going to do next" My daughter, all of 15 years old, was completely enrolled in the story. It amazed me that she was getting what I experienced when I first read Mitch's story, a very human and heart felt narrative of someone's life. Yes, it's about real estate but so much more. It is a great story that will make you laugh, cry, and look at real estate in a very personal way. It's so good even a 15 year old enjoyed it. My Life & 1,000 Houses to its members.

I am an avid reader and lover of adventure stories, including books by Ernest Hemingway and Jack London. MY Life & 1000 Houses is absolutely as entertaining, engrossing and compelling as any adventure novel I have ever read. This book is much, much more than just a "how-to" manual about investing in real estate. I have never invested in real estate, know next to nothing about the subject, and still could not put the book down! I read the entire 400 page book in 3 days. My Life & 1,000 Houses to its members.
Mitch's story of courage, determination and persistence in the face of personal and professional adversity is the stuff of legend, and at the very core of what makes America so great. It is equally poignant, triumphant, inspiring, and at times, laugh out loud funny.
As a relatively new bootstrap entrepreneur determined to be successful, even if I never invest in real estate, MY Life & 1000 Houses is a book I will refer to again and again. It contains the type of wisdom and common sense that every entrepreneur needs a healthy dose of.
Even if you are not in the real estate business, GET THIS BOOK and devour it!

This book is very entertaining as well as informative. Mr. Stephen presents some unusal real estate investment ideas!
The CD which is included with the book has some great music on it as well. Mitch has created a unique concept by linking songs to chapters in the book. My Life & 1,000 Houses to its members.

The uplifting guidance and lessons about perserverance and creative thinking are priceless. Everyone should read this book from the investor to the high school student just starting his journey. While I was inspired by the author's "out of the box" thinking and entrepreneurial tenacity, I was surprised at how entertaining and touching of a story he reveals in this book. We learn of Mitch's rural upbringing in Texas and ride along with he and his family through their journey of struggles, victories and their lives as decent hard working people. The themes run the gamut of family, love, joy, humor, depression, addiction, loss, human nature and the clear message that winning at business does not always mean getting the best of someone else. After reading this book it is hard not to walk away with an expanded perception of success and a renewed energy to go after your own goals. My Life & 1,000 Houses to its members.

There’s no shortage of books on building wealth from real estate. Hundreds of textbook-type offerings present all the business basics you could ever need, and plenty of how-to advice to go with them. This is not that book.
Mitch Stephen delivers a unique and practical guide to real estate success, one that examines the bigger picture. My Life & 1,000 Houses describes Mitch’s personal journey as a real estate entrepreneur, from his early struggles to his phenomenal success—success he achieved just one house at a time.
More than 1000 houses later, Mitch delivers what few real estate books do: the personal insights of an entrepreneur who not only knows what to do but does it. Plus, he goes beyond the boundaries of business, revealing how his experiences affected his personal life. You’ll gain a rare insight into the challenges, setbacks, triumphs, and unexpected lessons that come from one man’s venture into the entrepreneurial life. More importantly, you’ll be inspired.

The San Antonio Real Estate Investors Association has dedicated its offices in Mitch Stephen’s name. Although he never served as president, on the board, nor on a committee, Mitch has made a tremendous difference in the success of others by simply showing up and giving freely of his expertise. My Life & 1,000 Houses captures the essence of this man’s business acumen and the personal history on which it’s based.
His book is as fascinating as it is entertaining. It speaks to you on levels far deeper than the issues of money, and demonstrates how success is much more than financial wealth. We'll always have a copy of this invaluable book at "The Mitch Stephen Investment Center."

If only Mitch had written this book 5 years ago when I got started in real estate! I’ve read about a hundred books on real estate and attended dozens of seminars on the subject. But if I had to pick the one factor that helped me the most in moving from homelessness to financial freedom, it would be this book. Mitch’s straight-forward, tell-it-how-it-is style blends the perfect amount of humor with serious and insightful content.

Bookstore shelves are packed with publications claiming to reveal the easy route to wealth. However, few address the struggles encountered and the life lessons learned during the pursuit of success. My Life & 1,000 Houses is that rare offering. With little more than passionate desire and initiative, Mitch moved from abject poverty to extraordinary riches. He takes you along on his amazing quest for financial freedom through real estate, without sparing the rich texture of setbacks and disappointments he experienced along the way. His tale of blood, sweat, tears and laughter is truly inspirational.

My Life & 1,000 Houses is not another get-rich-quick book. Rather, it’s an inspirational story about thinking outside of the box, looking towards the future, establishing the right relationships, standing by your word, and continuing to challenge yourself. He has wholesaled deals to me that have always been profitable, and has given me valuable advice concerning the rehab process, resources to complete projects economically, and marketing methods to sell my properties quickly.

I have personally traded in the neighborhood of $2 million worth of real estate with Mitch Stephens. These transactions have involved selling, buying, borrowing, lending, and optioning of real estate.
Mitchell embodies all the qualities I would look for in a business partner, borrower, lender, or other participant in a real estate deal. His competence is superseded only by his sincerity, sense of fairness, and commitment to integrity. He does right even when it costs him. Mitch always values relationships over personal gain. He offers only those deals that benefit everyone involved. I value the privilege of having done business with him.

With this book Mitch takes the reader through his ride and incredible journey that has led to where he is today, a self made real estate success story. Mitch takes the reader deep into his mind set and shares his heart and soul, along with how HE got THERE, in a candid straight forward manner. He puts it all out there for the reader to learn what he has done and is currently doing to make it happen in the real estate market. This book should be required reading for all inspired real estate professionals looking for relevant information on how to make it with single family homes in today’s market. I will certainly be recommending “My Life and 1000 Houses” to our network. Mitch provides an “In the Trenches” point of view because he is in the trenches every day and he is the REAL Deal. Here is to the next 1000 Mitch.
